Poe Done

I actually really like how this one turned out. I'm starting on the Tim burton in the next few days... when I get the time to sit down and actually do it. I hope they all go as well as this.

Two New WIPs

First, we Jenny Greenteeth. I started this a week ago, but I haven't found time to just finish the last bits off. I need to decide whether I want to make the water/grass to look more realistic or more geometric/patterned/stylized. It's a blurry photo, but the board was just slightly too big for my scanner.

Next is the start of a series of portraits of people who have influenced me in some way. So far on the list is: Poe, Tim Burton, Elvis Costello, Jim Henson, Twiggy, Henry Rollins and maybe more. These people obviously have to look interesting in some way. So to kick it off, I started with Poe. I'm still deciding on what path to take the background. I'll probably go with a fade from med grey to white. I hope to finish this tomorrow.

That's it for now.

Scratchboard - DONE

So after totally procrastinating on this one, it's finally done. I really like how it came out. I'm working on finishing up another one tomorrow.

Flyer Fun

I did a flyer for some friends. I really like how it came out. I like the black and white best, but it's kind of my thing.

Go to the show too. It'll be good.
Over and out.

My Life in sketches: Lake Anna + Scratchboard

So, I've been super busy. It's good because I have a new job and bad because I have less time to work on my art.

First things first. Labor Day weekend at Lake Anna. Roasted pig, so interesting I had to draw it. It's skin was all leathery and blood was dripping into the fire pit. Creepy and cool all at the same time.

I got some more work done with my new board. It's been put on the back burner while I get situated into this new job. I'm hoping to finish it soon, I'd like to enter it in some things. Let's hope it comes out well and that it's willing to cooperate with me.

That's all for now. More soon. A new board is in the works, it's an update of an older piece. This time with better reference! Over and out, space cadets!

Holy Crap New Scratchboard - WIP

Started a new board. Bride of Frankenstein. You know how we roll. Anyway, got as much done as I could tonight (started at 8:30pm), hoping to finish tomorrow. Slight adjustment to the background, and I need to figure out how to make metal. Totally not the best photos, but my scanner is slightly too small and all the scans come out blurry.

It's a little blurry but here is a pretty good detail shot of what I have so far.

More My Life in Sketches tomorrow plus a hopefully finished board. w00t.

My Life in sketches: Florida

Went down to Florida for a week and a half with Nick and Kish, we stayed with Nick's uncle Otto in Clearwater, Fl. Pretty neat. Swam in the gulf for the first time and snorkeled for the first time. Saw some dolphins and some manatees, one of which effectively translated popped out of the water with an "oh, hai!" Anyway, good times mostly had by all except for a few strange incidents involving burglars, bugs, rogue sprinklers, Clue: Harry Potter edition, one sassy, foul mouthed 11 year old and much needed jack n' cokes.

Drawn while sitting and watching the sun set on Clearwater Beach.

Night fishing off a pier in Clearwater Beach. Nick caught 1 salt water cat and I caught a puny pinfish.

An amalgamation/time lapse of things I saw on the water after I came in from fishing on Honeymoon Island.

Chilling out after catching 5 salt water catfish with my rod leaned against one of the beach chairs. Otto leaned his there too which he cut more bait.

Gestural sketches of Nick and Otto trying to get a snagged line to release.

Over all a very productive at relaxing trip. Back to the real world. Over and out, space cadets!

Art Behind The Banner...

My Life in Sketches: DC United

My friend Nick on the train heading to the DC United Game. We won.

Going to Florida for a week, hopefully I'll get a ton of sketches done of awesome stuff like sand sculptures or manatees.

My LIfe in Sketches the Laurel Addition

Went with from friends on an adventure in search of food. We found and interesting spot called Shane's Rib Shack. Good life choice. I drew while we waiting for out food to arrive. I'm actually really proud of this sketch because I'm usually terrible at drawing people I know, but I did a good job this time.

My Life In Sketches, Plus New Old Art

I missed a couple days of sketches I think, lame on my part. Anyway here are my latest encounters/experiences/whatever.

Thursday hung out with some friends while they bottled their home brewed beer. Here you can see Shane siphoning the beer into the bottles.

Saturday went out to the bar. Same bar as before but a different angle, different day, different bar tenders.

I'm really trying to buckle down and draw every day, but i'm slipping up already. I'm getting better about it. Here's to chronicling my life in pictures.

Here is some art I did early senior year. It's a wood block, illustration of an alien princess and her monster pet/companion on the prowl/look out. It's weird, I didn't know how I felt about it at the time and I still don't know how I feel about it. It's interesting. I think the angle and composition are weird and could have been better.

That's it for this post. Over and out.

My Life In Sketches Day 3

Washington, DC

Went out to the bar with some friends who came down to visit from Philadelphia. The owner of the bar wants a copy of the sketch to hang up, which is cool. This is a continuation of my weekend in sketches. I plan in pursuing this over a full year. From July 3rd to July 3rd... or maybe July 4th to July 4th just to make it easy to remember. So far, so good.

My Weekend In Sketches

Slash, I totally haven't posted in forever. Anyway, here are some sketches I did on my 4th of July weekend mini-vacation.

Colonial Beach, VA

Weird jetty thing concrete barrels, potomac river.

Kishani's legs on the left, and my knee and foot on the right. Bait bucket.

Pier we were fishing off of. The fishing pole holders whistled when the wind blew, it was really neat. I caught 3 catfish (largest one was 11in) and found 3 sharks teeth.

Lake Anna, VA

Random sketches I drew while it was raining.

A lime and a boat... yup.

Nick's arm, a bird feeder and the tip of the toy surfer.

So that was my weekend in sketches... most of the time I was fishing which makes drawing hard since my hands were usually wet. I hope to post more soon.

Over and out

Vader Totally Done!!! Throw Down #3

So yup, Vader is done finally. I was going to send it in yesterday but I need a better scan, so I'm sending it in a bit. It's pretty straight forward...

Sometimes Vader just has to choke a bitch.

More later.

DONE, Art Thrown Down #2 "The Infernal Nun"

I am finished. I am done. I am absolutely insane. Three days worth of intermittent work. It's going to be apart of a series of four boards. The first being the Infernal Nun (which corresponds nicely with fire I realized). Second the Crow Witch for air, third the Hag/Babba Yagga for earth, and fourth the Sea Witch/Circe for water. I'm excited about this series which is good. Let us see how fast I can crank them out shall we.

I really like this one.

Get Thee To A Nunnery

Ok, so sometimes I get in this zone and I totally lose track of time. I also might have happened to work until I blistered. Alright, done for the night most likely. I'm going to go wash my hands to make it official. Though I'm in a mood for work so, who knows. Totally going to be finished tomorrow/later today.

Continued

Got more work done today. Taking a break to get something to eat. I think it is definitely going in a direction I like. I hope I can keep this up. I totally can... totally...

Sketch Scratch Board

The beginning of my next scratch board. I'm putting the fairies on the back burner for a bit to crank out the new stuff. Anyway, totally don't know why I drew this besides that I like nuns, weird shit and I watched a ton of shows on weird apocalyptic religious sects and their architecture and junk today with my dad while doing house work. Apparently Friday the 13th is superstitious because on October 13th, 1307 King Philip ordered the arrest and execution of all the Knights Templar in France... well at least that's one of the superstitions ... my dad wouldn't tell me if that's the reason he is superstitious about it but when does he tell me anything when it comes to that. Whoa tangent. So yeah this is some funky weird nun/priestess who can foresee the future with the infernal eye or something to that effect. So yeah, sketch on the board and away we go.

*EDIT*

Here's some more work I did tonight. My hand is starting to cramp so I think it's time for bed. I really like how it is coming along so far. If I can manage to not screw anything up it could be a really neat piece.

So here's to hopefully quantity and quality!

*EDIT #2*

So apparently my dad is superstitious of the number 13 because he broke his arm on the 13th when he was 13 and several members of our family died on a 13th of a month and some even on Friday the 13th. Weirds! Anyway more progress.

Art Throw Down... Post #1

So, a friend of mine and I decided to compete against each other to see who could produce the most work starting from April 1st and ending June 30th, winner gets total bragging rights. I figured a good way to keep track of what I've produced is by posting with numbers. See the lovely #1 in the title. Anyway, starting simple. Quote of the Day.

"He plays Jedi mind tricks on jungle creatures." - Rik
"I am not the food you are looking for." - myself

Hopefully I'll post some more work later this evening.

I Need A Job Like None Other... More Quote of the Day

Quote of the day for March 29th, 2009.

"But there's cake" - Brittany

So yeah got a lot of work done today. Played with some worms too. Huge night crawlers, totally awesome.

I'm On Fire, Yes

I think this will be the last update of the day. Anyway, getting a lot of work done which makes me happy. The perspective on the bench is a little off but at this point I really don't care. If I can finish a piece this big and a descent amount of time I'll be happy with myself. yeaaahhh...

Quote of the Day

Quote of the day for March 25th, 2009. Karaoke night at the Stained Glass Pub.

"Guess it's time to get a new one." - Kevin

A vintage quote of the day from Mrs. Games-Young. "This is Austria; note the attractive hat."

Back to the scratchboard...

Actual Scratchboard Progress!

Ok, so here's an update of the work I did last night and the day before. I'm pretty much finished the girl, I just need to tighten up her knee. I think I'm satisfied with how it looks for now. Maybe I'll get in a bit more progress today, and by a bit I mean a lot.

Here's a full board shot. I still have a LOT of work to do, but I'm getting there. Hell I definitely have the time now.

Yes, that is Pippi's ear in the corner. Alright, off to bake a cake.

More Vintage Quote of the Day

More Quote of the Day. Why? because there's nothing better to do.

Who's the most boring person you are friends with?...Al Gore..." - Lyndsey

"A mind is a terrible thing to confuse with an egg." - Lizz

Quote of the Day... something new perhaps

This is vintage quote of the day.

When I was little, I was mad that I didn't have a dog, so I dragged my cat around. - Lyndsey V.

A totally new awesome section of my super totally awesome blog! or something like that...
